Ruben Dias Extends Contract with Manchester City Through 2029

Manchester City’s defender, Ruben Dias, has committed to the club until 2029 after signing a contract extension, the team announced Friday.

Since his arrival from Benfica in 2020, the 28-year-old central defender has accumulated 10 trophies, including a memorable treble in 2023.

In addition to being recognized as the 2020–21 Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, the Portugal national team member played a vital role in City’s unprecedented 2024 campaign, where they became the first team to secure four consecutive top-flight titles.

Following his contract renewal, Dias conveyed his enthusiasm for continuing his career with the club.

“I’m incredibly proud to represent this fantastic Club. Manchester City is exactly where I aspire to be – competing for major honors at the pinnacle of the sport,” Dias stated.

He further mentioned that his personal goals are in line with the club’s ambitions, and he is always striving to deliver his best performance for the team.

“The Club’s ambition aligns perfectly with mine, and as a player, there’s no greater situation,” Dias added.

“My current focus is to perform at my absolute best throughout this contract, contributing to our pursuit of further trophies.”

Hugo Viana, Manchester City’s Director of Football, lauded Dias for his dedication, describing him as a key leader both on and off the field.

“He embodies leadership in the locker room and during matches. As one of our captains, he commands respect from his teammates, and both Pep and the coaching staff value his contributions immensely. He is the epitome of a professional,” Viana remarked.

“Each time Ruben wears the City jersey, he dedicates himself entirely to the club’s cause.”
