Amorim Criticizes Players After Shocking Defeat

Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, expressed his profound disappointment with his team following their unexpected loss to Grimsby Town, stating he ‘hates his players’ after the match.

The Red Devils, who endured a challenging previous season, finishing a lowly 15th in the Premier League, were eliminated after a 12-11 penalty shootout loss at Blundell Park. Key summer acquisitions Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha faltered, missing critical penalties, while goalkeeper Andre Onana only blocked one of Grimsby’s attempts.

This defeat represents Manchester United’s inaugural Carabao Cup defeat against a team from the fourth division and their earliest departure from the tournament since 2014.

In a pre-match press conference before their Premier League match against Burnley, Amorim conveyed to the media that his feelings toward his players fluctuate. He said that at times he is frustrated, and at other times he is supportive.

“Every time we face a defeat like that, I will express my emotions honestly. Sometimes I am frustrated with my players, other times I am supportive, and at times I want to defend them. This reflects my approach, and I intend to remain consistent,” Amorim stated.

“I was deeply frustrated and annoyed by that particular performance [against Grimsby]. I recognize that many experienced individuals advise me to maintain composure and consistency when interacting with the media, but that is not my intention.”

“That performance was entirely unacceptable. At times, I contemplate resigning, while at other times, I envision remaining here for two decades. I must improve in this aspect, which will be challenging, but my focus is now on the upcoming match.”

Addressing Kobbie Mainoo’s situation, Ruben Amorim affirmed the club’s interest but emphasized the need for him to compete for a spot in the team.

“Until it’s official, I cannot disclose much. We want Kobbie Mainoo to remain, but he must compete for his position. We need Kobbie,” Amorim added.

“I am aware that players who are not currently playing are disappointed. They must demonstrate their commitment during the week.”
