Rooney Advocates for Donnarumma’s Acquisition by Amorim

Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United icon, has encouraged Ruben Amorim to pursue the acquisition of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to recent media reports.

Donnarumma himself has verified his impending exit from PSG after being sidelined from the squad by manager Luis Enrique for a Super Cup match.

Manchester United is also facing challenges after the departure of their previous goalkeeper, David de Gea.

In a discussion on his YouTube channel, Rooney reflected on how United’s defensive line improved significantly after Edwin van der Sar’s arrival, who took over from Roy Carroll and Tim Howard.

“I recall when Roy Carroll and Tim Howard were in goal; there wasn’t complete assurance from the defenders in front,” Rooney stated.

“However, as soon as Van der Sar joined, bringing calm, the defenders placed greater trust in him, leading to enhanced performance. This is where Manchester United stands now.

“They desire that assurance and trust in the goalkeeper behind them, guiding their positioning.”
Talking about Donnarumma, Wayne Rooney suggested Manchester United should consider signing him.

Rooney further commented that securing Donnarumma would bring composure and effective communication at crucial times. He acknowledged Andre Onana’s talent, recalling his impressive performances at Inter Milan but noted his inconsistency last season. Rooney emphasized Donnarumma’s age of 26 and his status as one of the world’s top goalkeepers, suggesting it would be imprudent for Manchester United not to pursue him.

Donnarumma was vital to PSG’s successful treble-winning season, aiding their first-ever Champions League victory.
