Cricket Australia Official Praises Pakistani Players in BBL Draft
Alistair Dobson, the General Manager of the Big Bash League (BBL) at Cricket Australia, has commended the inclusion of Pakistani players such as Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan in the overseas players’ draft list for the upcoming BBL Season 15.
In a formal declaration, Dobson voiced his excitement for the competition ahead, spotlighting the presence of various international cricket stars.
“Having renowned figures like Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Heather Knight, and Sophie Ecclestone nominate themselves illustrates the sustained allure of the Big Bash Leagues to premier athletes worldwide,” stated Alistair.
“We are greatly anticipating the Big Bash Leagues drafts, which feature global icons and will undoubtedly pique interest as teams vie for top-tier talent,” he further commented.
Dobson also addressed the change to an earlier date for the draft, pointing out the calculated advantages it presents for both teams and supporters.
“Moving the draft ahead will offer greater assurance for clubs as they shape their squads and will give fans an early look at the stars who will represent their teams,” he explained.
He also acknowledged the backing from broadcast partners Seven Network and Fox Sports, who will broadcast the draft across several platforms to maintain the involvement and amusement of Big Bash followers.
“We appreciate the support of our partners Seven and Fox Sports, who will guarantee the draft is transmitted across numerous channels, keeping Big Bash enthusiasts engaged and entertained,” he affirmed.
Looking forward, Dobson conveyed his anticipation for the approaching BBL season, suggesting that additional announcements are forthcoming.
“We anticipate making more thrilling announcements in the coming weeks as we disclose the complete list of nominations and additional pre-signed international players who will contribute to the excitement of the Big Bash Leagues this summer,” he concluded.
It is important to note that Cricket Australia recently revealed the first overseas draft list for BBL 15, which includes notable Pakistani cricketers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Rizwan.
The draft is scheduled for June 19, with Brisbane Heat possessing the first pick.
Joining the Pakistani contingent, the initial roster of 10 players features England’s Sam Curran and Alex Hales, New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera, and West Indies’ promising pace bowler Shamarh Brooks.
In parallel, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) draft nomination list boasts distinguished international players like India’s Shikha Pandey and Jemimah Rodrigues, West Indies’ Deandra Dottin, and Pakistan’s Fatima Sana.
For the first time, both the BBL and WBBL drafts have been moved to June, providing franchises with enhanced clarity and more time for team compositions.
