Isak Linked with Potential Move to Liverpool
Newcastle United’s forward, Alexander Isak, has reportedly been instructed to train separately amidst growing speculation about his future, according to international media sources on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that Isak was asked to attend training after the rest of the squad had departed on Wednesday.
The Swedish international, notably absent from Eddie Howe’s 30-man squad for the team’s pre-season tour of Asia due to what was described as a ‘minor thigh injury,’ is strongly rumored to be considering a transfer to Liverpool.
Last week, British media outlets mentioned that Newcastle had turned down Liverpool’s official bid for Isak.
Newcastle is believed to value the striker at approximately £150 million, while reports suggest Liverpool’s offer was around £110 million in addition to potential add-ons.
After sitting out Newcastle’s Asia tour, Isak opted to train at his former club, Real Sociedad, stating his desire to assess his options this summer.
He then made his way back to Tyneside over the weekend, just before Howe and his team were granted two days off following their return from Seoul.
Reports suggest that the Newcastle squad arrived at the training facility on Wednesday morning, with their families permitted to join them after the training session.
However, it is understood that Alexander Isak, who returned on Monday, was instructed to arrive at the ground after the other players had left.
Alexander Isak, who transferred from Real Sociedad to Newcastle for £60 million in 2022, has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies since joining the team.
Isak has three years remaining on his contract with Newcastle, but the club has reportedly started exploring potential replacements in preparation for his possible departure, although the club maintains he is not for sale.
Nevertheless, Newcastle’s position might change if they identify a suitable replacement for the Swedish forward.
Sources also suggest that Newcastle has already initiated efforts to secure RB Leipzig’s striker, Benjamin Sesko, and has submitted bids.
Manchester United is also reportedly interested in Sesko and has contacted Leipzig with an offer.
Newcastle’s initial offer of around £65 million plus £4.3 million in add-ons was rejected by Leipzig over the weekend, leading to an improved offer of at least £70 million.
