Lowe’s Clutch Hit Propels Boston Past Yankees
BRONX: In the opening game of their four-game MLB series at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, Nathaniel Lowe delivered a pivotal performance, guiding the Boston Red Sox to a 6-3 triumph over the New York Yankees.
Lowe’s seventh-inning double broke a tie, driving in the go-ahead run for Boston. Roman Anthony also contributed significantly, with an RBI single in the sixth and a two-run home run in the ninth.
The victory snapped Boston’s three-game losing streak and narrowed the gap to half a game behind New York for the top American League wild-card spot. Despite leaving 14 runners on base and a three-for-19 performance with runners in scoring position, Boston’s record against the Yankees this season improved to 6-1.
The Yankees’ five-game winning streak concluded with four errors that resulted in three unearned runs. Ben Rice homered for New York, while Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each contributed with RBI singles.
Ceddanne Rafaela scored Boston’s initial run in the second inning due to a throwing error by Rice. Lowe previously tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, prior to his seventh-inning double off reliever Luke Weaver (3-4), which brought home Trevor Story.
Lowe, who joined Boston after being released by Washington, also hit a home run in his first start on Tuesday. Greg Weissert (5-4) earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings pitched, while Aroldis Chapman secured his 23rd save with a flawless ninth. For Friday’s game, Boston’s Brayan Bello will face New York’s Max Fried.
