Red Sox Secure Victory Over Orioles
BALTIMORE: Jarren Duran’s pivotal three-run homer in the fifth inning broke his 17-game drought, propelling the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 triumph against the Baltimore Orioles in Monday’s MLB series opener at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Duran’s 13th homer of the season came against Orioles pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano, capping off a four-run surge for Boston. Sugano pitched six innings, conceding six hits, but his eight-start undefeated streak was halted.
Roman Anthony initiated the scoring with a solo home run, his sixth this year, and added a hit, contributing to the Red Sox’s fourth win in their last five games. Connor Wong and Masataka Yoshida each recorded two hits.
Boston utilized an opener strategy for the second occasion this season, with Brennan Bernardino delivering a scoreless first inning. Richard Fitts then pitched four innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks.
Veteran closer Aroldis Chapman secured his 25th save with a flawless ninth inning. Colton Cowser drove in all three of Baltimore’s runs, with a solo homer in the second and a two-run single in the third. Despite collecting three of the Orioles’ six hits, he struck out in a crucial eighth-inning at-bat with two runners on base.
Baltimore struggled with runners in scoring position, going one-for-eight, and has now lost four of their last five contests.
The four-game series continues Tuesday, with Kyle Bradish scheduled for his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2024. He will face Boston’s Lucas Giolito.
