Rangers Defeat Red Sox in Series Opener
BOSTON: Nathan Eovaldi delivered a strong performance with seven strikeouts across six innings, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. This win marks the beginning of a new chapter with Bret Boone as the hitting coach.
Eovaldi conceded just one run on five hits, contributing significantly to the Rangers’ first back-to-back wins since they swept the Angels from April 15–17.
The Texas team accumulated 13 hits during the game, just shy of their season-high of 15, achieved during a 15-2 triumph over the Athletics the previous week.
Statements from Players
Designated hitter Joc Pederson remarked, “It’s an interesting game. The smallest things can have the biggest impact. You’re never that far off—it’s never as bad as you think. It’s unfortunate what happened. Donnie put his blood, sweat, and tears into us. But obviously, they moved on, and with Boonie coming in, it’s a new, fresh vocabulary, language, conversations, and outlook on the offensive side. I think we take it, run with it, and make the best of it. We’re off to a good start.”
Key Moments
The Rangers had a productive fourth inning, scoring five runs. This was their highest-scoring inning on the road this season and their most significant surge away from home since August 10, 2024, at Yankee Stadium.
Josh Jung stood out as the only Ranger to hit a home run during the game.
Boston didn’t score until the sixth inning when Kristian Campbell’s single drove in Alex Bregman, who had previously doubled to right field. This was only the Red Sox’s fourth hit of the night.
Boston’s starting pitcher, Lucas Giolito (0-1), struggled, allowing 10 hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
In the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday night, Tyler Mahle (3-1, 1.19 ERA) will pitch for the Rangers against Boston’s Tanner Houck (0-2, 6.38 ERA).
