Ramiz Lauds Shakeel’s Captaincy as Key to Gladiators’ Success in PSL
LAHORE: Ramiz Raja, former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), commended Quetta Gladiators’ captain, Saud Shakeel, on Thursday, recognizing his exceptional leadership throughout the tenth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He hailed him as a remarkable captain.
In his commentary on his online channel, Ramiz emphasized the Gladiators’ smart selections and tactical acumen exhibited during the competition, which were based on evaluating pitch dynamics and game scenarios.
Ramiz gave credit to Saud for successfully executing these strategies and being a pivotal component in the team’s achievements.
“Saud Shakeel’s leadership has proven crucial during the PSL. He remains composed even when the pressure mounts during games. It appears that pressure has absolutely no bearing on him,” Ramiz stated.
The former captain characterized Saud as a remarkably collected leader, remarking on his unwavering composure throughout matches.
“Many suggest Saud Shakeel should display more emotion; however, he doesn’t need to, as his performance speaks volumes,” Ramiz added.
The veteran cricket administrator also reflected on the evolving nature of modern captaincy shaped by media influence.
“Present-day captaincy is frequently influenced by TV, media, and cameras. Captains often feel compelled to exhibit artificial emotions to prove their leadership capabilities, given the constant examination of their leadership,” he observed.
Ramiz advised Saud to stay true to himself, stating, “His style of play and leadership perfectly complements him. He does not need to feign emotions. He manages everything with a calm demeanor, which is commendable,” he suggested.
He also applauded the noticeable improvement in the Gladiators’ performance this season, attributing it to strategic adjustments and the appointment of a fresh captain.
“Making changes has clearly brought positive results. Quetta made limited changes, yet the slight reallocation of roles and the introduction of a new captain brought freshness and a renewed perspective,” he concluded.
