Rain Washes Out Third T20I Between Pakistan and South Africa, Hosts Clinch 2-0 Series Victory
JOHANNESBURG: The third and final T20I match between Pakistan and South Africa was washed out by rain on Friday, as persistent downpours and lightning at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg prevented any play. This result confirmed South Africa’s 2-0 series victory over Pakistan, having already clinched the series by winning the first two T20Is.
The match, which was scheduled to start at 9:00 PM, faced continuous delays due to the weather. Officials were unable to conduct the toss at the designated time of 8:30 PM (PST), and despite the tireless efforts of the ground staff to prepare the pitch, the relentless rain made it impossible for play to commence.
As the conditions showed no signs of improving, the match was officially abandoned, sealing South Africa’s 2-0 win in the three-match series.
South Africa Clinches Series in Second T20I
Earlier in the series, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in the second T20I held at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Pakistan posted a competitive total of 206 runs, but Reeza Hendricks’ magnificent century (117 off 63 balls) guided South Africa to a comfortable win with three balls to spare.
Looking Ahead: ODIs and Tests on the Horizon
The washed-out third T20I marks the end of the T20 series, but both teams will look to shift focus to the ODI and Test series. The first ODI is set to take place on December 17 in Paarl, followed by Test matches beginning on December 26 and January 3 in Centurion and Cape Town, respectively.
Despite the disappointment of the rain-affected final match, South Africa will be satisfied with their dominant performance in the series, while Pakistan will aim to bounce back in the upcoming formats.
