Raducanu Voices Frustration Over Practice Time Ahead of Swiatek Match
Emma Raducanu has criticized the French Open organizers regarding the limited practice opportunities on the primary courts before her second-round match against Iga Swiatek, the defending champion.
Raducanu secured a victory against Wang Xinyu of China with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in their first-round encounter at Roland Garros.
Due to recent struggles, Raducanu is unseeded in the French Open, which means she is playing on the smaller courts.
The British tennis player expressed her dissatisfaction with the limited practice time on the main courts, suggesting unequal treatment among players.
Raducanu stated, “I honestly find it quite challenging because the tournament doesn’t really assist in providing sufficient court time on the main courts or the match courts.”
She further added, “I feel that certain players receive preferential treatment. The transition from the annex or other courts to Chatrier or a stadium court is significant and not easy.”
Raducanu expressed her desire for more opportunities to practice on the prominent courts.
“I wish we could get more chances on the stadium or bigger courts, particularly when we are scheduled to compete on them,” Raducanu mentioned.
She emphasized the importance of playing on the relevant court to adapt to the environment.
“The court today had a charming, intimate feel. I appreciate how you can genuinely sense the fans and their support, as larger courts can feel somewhat empty if not fully occupied. There, you are completely immersed in the atmosphere,” she concluded.
Raducanu is scheduled to face Swiatek in the second round on Wednesday.
