Peshawar Zalmi Clinch Victory Over Lahore Qalandars in PSL 10
LAHORE: In the 14th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, Peshawar Zalmi, the 2017 champions, showcased a dominant performance, securing a seven-wicket win against Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
After being asked to bat first, the Qalandars’ batting lineup collapsed, managing only 129 runs in 19.2 overs, despite a resilient half-century from Sikandar Raza.
Lahore Qalandars faced an early setback, losing half of their batsmen within the powerplay with a mere 35 runs on the scoreboard.
Sikandar Raza fought valiantly, scoring 52 runs off 37 balls, which included five boundaries and three sixes.
Alzarri Joseph shone as Zalmi’s key bowler, claiming three wickets while conceding only 16 runs in his spell of four overs.
Luke Wood and Hussain Talat provided valuable support, each securing two wickets. Arif Yaqoob and Ali Raza contributed with one wicket each.
In their chase, Peshawar Zalmi reached the 130-run target with ease, losing three wickets and having 20 balls remaining, propelled by half-centuries from captain Babar Azam and Hussain Talat.
Babar Azam led Peshawar Zalmi’s batting display with an undefeated 56 runs from 42 deliveries, comprising seven boundaries and a six, while Hussain Talat scored 51 not out from 37 balls, hitting six boundaries, including a six.
Despite this win, Peshawar Zalmi holds the fourth position in the PSL 10 standings with four points from five games, trailing Lahore Qalandars, who have an identical record but a marginally superior net run rate.
Islamabad United, the current champions, lead the table with 10 points from five games and a net run rate of 2.342, followed by Karachi Kings with six points from six games.
Quetta Gladiators are in fifth place with two points after three games, while Multan Sultans are at the bottom with the same number of points due to a lower net run rate.
