Karachi Kings Eliminate Multan Sultans from Playoff Contention
LAHORE: In the 20th match of PSL 10, held at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, Karachi Kings, the 2020 champions, delivered a resounding 87-run defeat to Multan Sultans.
After electing to bat, the Kings posted an imposing 204/4 in their 20 overs, largely due to James Vince’s half-century.
Vince spearheaded the Kings’ innings with an undefeated 65 from 45 balls, including five boundaries and a pair of sixes.
Furthermore, Muhammad Irfan Khan (40) and Khushdil Shah (33) added valuable runs in the latter stages, boosting their team’s total beyond 200.
For the Sultans, Ubaid Shah claimed two wickets but proved costly, conceding 49 runs in his four overs. Curtis Campher and David Willey each took one wicket.
In pursuit of a challenging 205-run target, the Sultans’ batting lineup collapsed, managing only 117 runs in 16.1 overs. This marked their seventh loss, officially eliminating them from PSL 10 contention.
Although the significant victory did not shift the Kings’ position in the standings, it substantially improved their net run rate to a positive 0.445.
The Sultans, however, remain at the bottom of the table with just two points from eight games.
Islamabad United, the three-time champions, continue to lead the PSL 10 standings with 10 points from six matches, despite their first loss on Wednesday in the six-team competition.
Lahore Qalandars hold the second spot with eight points from seven matches, closely followed by Quetta Gladiators, who have the same points but a lower net run rate in one less match.
Peshawar Zalmi, having won only two matches in the tournament so far, are fifth in the PSL 10 standings with four points from six matches and a net run rate of -0.847.
