LAHORE: Abrar Ahmed, the Pakistani spin bowler recognized for his distinctive head-shaking gesture after taking wickets, has opted to discontinue the celebration following criticism, particularly during the Champions Trophy match against India.

Backlash After India Match
The pivotal moment occurred when he dismissed India’s Shubman Gill and gestured for him to leave while shaking his head, resulting in substantial negative reactions.
Abrar’s Explanation
“This celebration started during the previous PSL and continued in South Africa without any issues,” Abrar explained. “However, it became a significant issue during the India match in the Champions Trophy. As I never intended to offend anyone, I’ve chosen to discontinue it.”
The skilled leg-spinner underscored his commitment to sportsmanship and his desire to avoid causing offense through his actions.
The 26-year-old also discussed enhancing his bowling abilities, especially in the final and middle overs, noting that his dedication is now producing positive results.
He lauded his PSL team, the Quetta Gladiators, stating, “Our team is formidable—just a single victory can shift our momentum. The motivation from a legend like Viv Richards is invaluable.”
He also acknowledged teammate Mark Chapman’s adaptation to the local environment, expressing optimism that the batter will maintain his strong performance.
Looking ahead, Abrar aims to become Pakistan’s leading bowler across all formats.
“I am concentrating on improving my fitness and will also dedicate time to improving my batting over the next six months,” he added.
Currently, Abrar is among the top wicket-takers in the ongoing tournament, securing seven wickets in just three matches.
The Quetta Gladiators are presently positioned fifth in the tournament, with one victory and two losses in three matches.
Their next match is scheduled against the Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on April 25.
