Kvitova Announces Retirement After US Open
Petra Kvitova, the two-time Wimbledon champion from the Czech Republic, has declared her upcoming retirement from professional tennis, stating her intention to conclude her career following this year’s US Open.
Kvitova, celebrated for her Wimbledon victories in 2011 and 2014, returned to the sport earlier in the year after taking a 15-month break for maternity leave. She is scheduled to participate in both Wimbledon and the US Open before officially retiring.
Throughout her impressive career spanning nearly two decades, Kvitova has secured 31 titles and attained a world ranking as high as number two.
In a message shared on her social media platforms, Kvitova revealed that this year’s Wimbledon, which is slated from June 30 to July 13, will be her final appearance at the tournament.
The Czech player conveyed her anticipation for savoring the experience of competing at Wimbledon once more, a venue where she has created some of the most cherished memories of her career.
“I am excited and very much looking forward to soak in the beauty of playing The Championships, Wimbledon one more time, a place that holds the most cherished memories in my career for me,” Kvitova expressed.
Kvitova then disclosed her plans to conclude her active playing career at the US Open, which is scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 7 in New York.
“And while I am not entirely sure yet what my hardcourt swing in the US will look like, I am intending to finish my active playing career at the U.S. Open in New York later this summer,” she stated.
Petra Kvitova reflected on her accomplishments and conveyed her lasting gratitude for all that the sport has provided her.
“I could not have asked or wished for anything more – tennis has given me everything I have today, and I will continue to be forever grateful to this beautiful sport that I love.”
Following her return to competition, Kvitova managed to win a single match in the first round of the Rome tournament.
