Perth Scorchers Secure Top End T20 Series Final Berth Against Adelaide Strikers

DARWIN: The Perth Scorchers clinched their spot in the Top End T20 Series final at the Gardens Oval on Sunday, triumphing over Pakistan Shaheens by 48 runs.

Electing to bat first, the Scorchers achieved a total of 155-8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Nicholas Hobson propelled the innings, scoring a vital 59 from 43 balls, which included seven fours and a pair of sixes.

Teague Wyllie, opening the batting, contributed a brisk 29 off 16 deliveries, while Matthew Kelly added 23. The remaining batsmen, however, struggled to post substantial scores.

From the Pakistan side, Saad Masood stood out with bowling figures of 3-21 in his four overs. Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Mehran Mumtaz each secured two wickets, and Faisal Akram took one.

In their pursuit of 156, the Shaheens struggled and were eventually all out for 107 in 17.1 overs.

Khawaja Nafay was the highest scorer with 26 runs from 24 balls, and Wasim Jr. contributed 25 runs from 26 balls, hitting three boundaries and a six. Skipper Irfan Khan Niazi (17) and Abdul Samad (10) were the only other batsmen to reach double digits.

Notably, Yasir Khan (opener), Saad Masood, and Mehran Mumtaz were all dismissed without scoring.

Keaton Critchell led the Scorchers’ bowling attack, claiming 3-13 in three overs. Matthew Kelly and Bryce Jackson both took two wickets, while Corey Rocchiccioli secured one.

With this victory, the Perth Scorchers have progressed to the final, where they are set to compete against the Adelaide Strikers. In an earlier match, the Strikers brought an end to the Chicago Kingsmen’s undefeated streak in the first semifinal.

The Kingsmen were bowled out for 130, a target which Adelaide surmounted with relative ease, reaching 131-4 in 16.3 overs.
