Guardiola Hails Echeverri After Debut Goal
Manchester City’s coach, Pep Guardiola, showered praise on Claudio Echeverri, recognizing him as an “incredible player” following his debut goal for the club.
Echeverri marked his first full appearance for City with a goal, contributing to the team’s dominant 6-0 victory against Al Ain in Atlanta. This win secured their advancement to the knockout stage of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The young Argentinian was substituted at halftime due to an ankle issue. Nevertheless, his 45-minute performance was sufficient to leave a lasting impression on Guardiola.
Guardiola described Echeverri’s goal as outstanding, reiterating that “he is an incredible player.”
“The goal was truly fantastic. He excels in tight spaces. Unfortunately, he had to be taken off early due to an ankle problem, but he demonstrated his quality in the initial minutes. His free kick was exceptional,” Guardiola commented.
Echeverri officially became a City player in February but had to wait until the FA Cup match against Crystal Palace in May to play.
He played in the Premier League for the first time against Fulham as a substitute towards the end of the game.
He was acquired from River Plate for approximately £18.5 million ($25m).
Guardiola commended the Argentinian’s dedication and effort, noting his consistent practice since joining the team last season, emphasizing that hard work yields results.
“Since his arrival, during the previous season, he dedicated three or four months to extra free-kick practice with the goalkeepers,” Guardiola added.
“While others didn’t focus on it, he persistently practiced, and his efforts paid off.
“Ultimately, he exhibited the courage and skill needed. When you dedicate time to practice, similar to golf or basketball, the more free throws you practice, the higher your chances of success.”
