Pakistan Super League to Expand with Two New Teams in 2026
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to undergo a significant expansion by introducing two new franchises after the 2025 season, increasing the total number of participating teams from six to eight. This development was confirmed by PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer, who emphasized the league’s commitment to sustained growth and enhanced competitiveness.
Naseer highlighted the league’s evolution, stating, “By the end of this year, we might get two more teams. There’s always something happening, which re-energizes the concept, the event, and the passion of the fans.”
The PSL, initially held in the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns, has successfully transitioned to being hosted entirely in Pakistan. This shift marks a significant milestone in the country’s cricket landscape, reflecting improved security and infrastructure.
The addition of two new teams is anticipated to enhance fan engagement and the league’s commercial appeal, solidifying the PSL’s position among the premier T20 leagues globally. However, specific details regarding the selection process for the new franchises and potential host cities have yet to be disclosed.
As the PSL prepares for this expansion, stakeholders and fans alike are eager to see how the inclusion of new teams will influence the league’s dynamics and contribute to the growth of cricket in Pakistan.
