Pakistan ODI Squad Gears Up for West Indies Series

LAHORE: Several members of Pakistan’s ODI team are slated to journey from Karachi to the United States this Thursday, setting the stage for their forthcoming limited-overs matches in the West Indies.

Key players making the trip include Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Abdullah Shafique, and Mohammad Rizwan.

This tour signifies Babar’s return to the ODI format for Pakistan, with his last appearance in a 50-over game being against New Zealand in April of this year.

However, the 30-year-old is not part of Pakistan’s T20I plans; his most recent showing in the shorter format was in December 2024 against South Africa.

Wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan’s last T20I appearance also occurred during the same series.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20I squad has commenced preparations for the approaching three-match series against the West Indies. They held an intense training session at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

The squad, currently in the USA, engaged in a comprehensive three-hour training session overseen by the coaching staff.

The session included fielding exercises, net practice, and skill-specific drills for both batters and bowlers.

It began with warm-ups and physical conditioning, followed by targeted training aimed at improving performance and match readiness.

Pakistan will face the West Indies in the first T20I on July 31 at the same venue, with Salman Ali Agha leading the side during the series.

Following the T20Is, the tour will shift to the Caribbean, where Mohammad Rizwan will take over as captain for the three-match ODI series, commencing August 8 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

Recently, the Men in Green toured Bangladesh for a T20I series, which they lost 2-1.

That series marked the second assignment for Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, who began his tenure with a 3-0 series victory over Bangladesh at home in May.
