Akram Emphasizes Handling Pressure for Victory

KARACHI: Wasim Akram, the legendary pacer, stated on Tuesday that India is the frontrunner in the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 match against Pakistan.

Despite current tensions, Pakistan and India are scheduled to face off in Dubai on September 14 during the group stage of the eight-team competition.

As the high-profile match draws closer, former cricketers have begun offering their predictions.

Akram, a former Pakistan captain, anticipates an ‘entertaining’ contest. He urged both fans and players to maintain discipline.

Considering India’s recent performance in the T20 format, Akram identified them as favorites but stressed that the team that manages pressure effectively will ultimately win.

“I am confident that these matches will be captivating, similar to previous encounters between India and Pakistan. I hope the players and supporters will remain disciplined and respectful,” Wasim Akram stated in an interview.

“While Indian fans understandably want their team to succeed, Pakistani fans feel the same. India’s recent form makes them the favorites, but the team that copes best under pressure on the day will emerge victorious,” he added.

Pakistan and India, placed in Group A, could potentially meet twice more in the Asia Cup 2025 if both advance to the final.

The tournament is set to commence on September 9 in Abu Dhabi, with Afghanistan playing Hong Kong in the opening match.

India will begin their campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the next day, while Pakistan will play their first match against Oman on September 12.
