Topuria to Face Charles Oliveira in Lightweight Bout at UFC 317 on June 28
Paddy Pimblett, the English mixed martial artist, declared on Sunday that he possesses the strategy to defeat Ilia Topuria.
Topuria is poised to commence a new phase in the UFC lightweight division. Following a brief reign as featherweight champion, the 28-year-old is progressing toward the 155-pound weight class.
Having previously secured the featherweight title from Alexander Volkanovski, Topuria relinquished it to transition to the lightweight division.
With an unblemished record of 8-0 in the featherweight division, Topuria has been granted a title opportunity in the lightweight division. He is scheduled to compete against Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 on June 28.
Pimblett, who defeated Michael Chandler in the fourth round at UFC 314 in Miami this past April, asserted his knowledge of how to overcome Topuria.
“I am confident in my ability to beat him, despite others doubting me. We’ve already discussed potential game plans, and I am aware of his vulnerabilities. Opponents often neglect these weaknesses, opting instead for a boxing-focused approach,” Pimblett stated.
“I won’t engage in a purely boxing match. I plan to utilize my comprehensive MMA skillset to secure a victory. I believe I can inflict significant damage and silence the doubters, which I always enjoy,” he added.
Topuria recently labeled Pimblett a ‘hypocrite’ and expressed that, given the choice, he would select Pimblett as his opponent due to his personal dislike for him.
