Pimblett Expresses Interest in Topuria Fight
Paddy Pimblett, the English mixed martial artist, has refuted Dricus Du Plessis’ assertions about a potential match against Justin Gaethje at the UFC 319 co-main event in Chicago this August.
Pimblett is a significant contender in the lightweight division, particularly after his impressive victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 314 in April.
Ilia Topuria, the newly crowned lightweight champion, has also suggested a fight with Pimblett, making it a likely possibility.
Du Plessis had indicated that Pimblett would face Gaethje at UFC 319 in Chicago, a claim that ignited excitement among MMA enthusiasts, but Pimblett quickly dismissed the rumor.
Pimblett stated, “You guys are mad if you think I’m fighting in August.”
Pimblett appears to be planning his return for the final quarter of 2025. While Gaethje’s schedule is open, he remains a potential opponent.
The Liverpool fighter seems keen on a title opportunity. Topuria has hinted at a possible return in December, which aligns with a realistic timeline for a title fight between them.
Pimblett expressed his desire to fight Topuria, noting the final decision rests with the UFC.
“I have strong negative feelings towards him. I want to inflict pain. I’d like the fight to extend into the fifth round, where I’ve landed numerous elbows and disfigured his face,” Pimblett stated.
“I’m not seeking a quick finish; I want to make him suffer. I’m ready to fight him this year or next. However, the UFC’s decision will prevail. Ultimately, it’s up to Dana [White], Hunter [Campbell], and Sean’s [Shelby] decision, but I believe it’s the most logical fight to make.”
