Mascherano Reveals Messi Rested as Precaution

Inter Miami will proceed into their MLS schedule this Sunday evening against their Floridian rivals, Orlando City, without Lionel Messi.

Herons head coach Javier Mascherano verified this past Saturday that Messi will not be participating in the match because of a slight muscular issue located in his right leg. Currently, there is no specified return date for the star player.

In a statement this Saturday, Mascherano mentioned that Messi is in good condition, but, considering the upcoming schedule, risking his health for the Orlando match would be unwise. He added that they remain hopeful for Messi’s prompt return.

Inter Miami holds a record of 12 wins, 4 losses, 6 ties, accumulating 42 points. They are heading into this match following a 3-1 victory against Pumas UNAM, securing their place in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals. Similarly, Orlando City, with a record of 11 wins, 6 losses, 8 ties, and 41 points, has also secured a spot in the quarterfinals after their 5-1 win over Necaxa.

The two Florida teams are set to continue their established rivalry, with Miami seeking to avenge one of their more significant defeats this season.

In their initial encounter on May 18, Orlando City showcased dominance by defeating Miami 3-0 in Fort Lauderdale, despite Messi’s presence on the field.

Since that defeat, Inter Miami has only suffered one loss in their subsequent nine MLS games, achieving a record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties.

During Wednesday’s match, without Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez emerged, scoring his first goal in nine games, accompanied by a goal from recent acquisition Rodrigo De Paul.

Miami’s Yannick Bright commented on Suarez, acknowledging his continued impact despite his age, while noting that Suarez’s contributions are sometimes overshadowed by Messi’s performances. He expressed gratitude for Suarez’s consistent efforts.

Orlando has only secured two victories in their last six home league matches, partly attributed to recurring defensive errors. Their offense has been consistent, scoring at least once in each of their last 14 league matches.

Ramiro Enrique and Luis Muriel have spearheaded the attack, with Martin Ojeda leading the team with 13 goals. Muriel contributed a goal in Orlando’s previous triumph against Inter Miami earlier in the season.

Orlando City coach Oscar Pareja acknowledged Muriel’s clinical performance in the final third, highlighting its consistent presence in training and past matches.

Inter Miami, with 49 goals, and Orlando City, with 46 goals, stand as the highest-scoring teams in the Eastern Conference.
