Madushanka Achieves Hat-Trick, Joins Elite Sri Lankan Bowlers

Left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka made history on Friday, securing a hat-trick in Sri Lanka’s initial One Day International of the two-game series against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.

Madushanka reached this significant achievement in the final over of Zimbabwe’s innings, dismissing the experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who was at 92, followed by Brad Evans and Richard Ngarava, each on their first ball.

Consequently, the 24-year-old has become the eighth Sri Lankan cricketer to claim a hat-trick in this format, following in the footsteps of legends such as Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga, both of whom accomplished this feat twice during their distinguished careers.

Globally, Dilshan Madushanka is now the 46th bowler to achieve an ODI hat-trick, marking the 53rd instance overall in this format, with Malinga, Vaas, Wasim Akram, Saqlain Mushtaq, Trent Boult, and Kuldeep Yadav having all accomplished it more than once.

Madushanka’s hat-trick was instrumental in Sri Lanka’s defense of their 299-run target, leading to a seven-run victory against a determined Zimbabwe side.

He concluded the match with impressive bowling stats of 4/62 across his 10 overs and was named Player of the Match.

“It’s been a while since I was with the team, so I am very pleased to achieve this upon my return. I am very happy that we successfully implemented our strategies at the end,” Madushanka commented after receiving his award.
