Gordon’s Clutch Shot Secures Game 1 Victory
OKLAHOMA CITY: In a thrilling Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals, Nikola Jokic’s outstanding performance propelled the Denver Nuggets to a dramatic 121-119 comeback win against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center on Monday night.
Jokic reaffirmed his status as a top NBA player, amassing 42 points, 22 rebounds, and six assists during the game.
Aaron Gordon also played a crucial role, contributing 22 points and 14 rebounds, highlighted by a pivotal three-pointer with only 2.8 seconds left.
“We aimed to seize the moment and capitalize on the opportunity,” Gordon stated post-game.
“We recognized the risk of waiting too long. I’m pleased we demonstrated our resolve and determination, but our ambition extends further,” he added.
Denver’s acting coach, David Adelman, lauded Gordon’s comprehensive performance.
“Aaron will be celebrated as a hero once more,” Adelman commented. “Beyond the game-winning shot, his 14 rebounds, 22 points, ball-handling, and leadership were exceptional. He embodies the spirit of the Denver Nuggets and is the heart of our team. It’s rewarding to see him create unforgettable moments.”
The Thunder dominated much of the match, leading 60-50 at halftime and maintaining a double-digit lead for most of the fourth quarter. However, Jokic’s surge of 18 points in the final quarter shifted the momentum in favor of Denver.
Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s impressive 33 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, the Thunder narrowly missed securing the win.
Game 2 of this best-of-seven series is scheduled for Wednesday.
