Djokovic Advances to Next Round, Set to Face Norrie
PARIS: Novak Djokovic showcased his dominance by defeating Filip Misolic with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday at Court Philippe Chatrier, securing his place in the round of 16 at the French Open.
Djokovic’s pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title continued as he overcame Austria’s Misolic, despite encountering difficulties with nine missed break points during the opening set.
Making his debut in the major’s main draw, the 23-year-old Misolic progressed through the qualifying rounds and achieved a notable victory against Denis Shapovalov, a former top 10 player, in the second round.
However, Misolic struggled to counter Djokovic’s superior skill, leading to a straightforward victory for the Serbian star.
Djokovic acknowledged Misolic’s performance, stating that his friend from Austria demonstrated strong play.
“I maintained consistency during crucial moments across all three sets. Filip played without pressure, he’s a close friend, and we often practice together. I am genuinely pleased for him and his impressive performance,” Djokovic commented.
He further added, “Each time I compete on this court, I am aware of playing for history. It is incredible to be part of a sport that has enriched my life significantly. I aim to reciprocate the passion and support I receive while playing.”
Djokovic is now scheduled to compete against British player Cameron Norrie in the upcoming round.
In another match, Alexander Zverev prevailed over Italy’s Flavio Cobolli with a score of 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-1, thereby progressing to the fourth round.
“This court holds immense significance for me. It has been the venue for some of my fondest and most challenging memories,” Zverev mentioned, recalling his ankle injury during the 2022 semi-final against Rafael Nadal.
“It´s a love story that is yet to reach its resolution, but I remain hopeful for a positive outcome in the future.”
The 2023 French Open finalist is preparing to face Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands, who triumphed over American Ethan Quinn in the third round.
