Stokes to Mentor Northern Superchargers Amid Injury
England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, will serve as a mentor for the Northern Superchargers in the approaching season of The Hundred.
Although he won’t be playing due to injury and fitness management, Stokes will support the men’s team in a non-playing role throughout the competition.
The 34-year-old previously participated in five games for the Superchargers in the 2021 and 2024 seasons.
His absence from this year’s 100-ball tournament was anticipated after the announcement in February that he would concentrate on handling his workload and fitness before the Ashes series in Australia this winter.
An earlier shoulder injury also prevented him from participating in the fifth Test against India, making him unavailable for The Hundred.
Stokes will now aim to contribute from the sidelines by joining head coach Andrew Flintoff’s support staff, despite not being on the field.
Stokes did not participate in the fifth Test against India at The Oval Cricket Ground. He sustained a shoulder injury during the fourth Test against India, which prevented him from playing in the final game.
Ollie Pope captained the side in his absence after Stokes sustained a shoulder injury during the fourth Test against India, which sidelined him for the final match.
Stokes had a strong series before his injury. Across four Tests, the 34-year-old bowled 140 overs and took 17 wickets for an average of 25.24.
He also contributed 304 runs with the bat in seven innings at an average of 43.43, demonstrating his importance to the team.
In a thrilling match at The Oval, India defeated England by six runs in the fifth and final Test, tying the five-match series 2-2 last week.
