Woltemade’s Acquisition Shatters Isak’s Previous Transfer Record
Newcastle United has officially announced the acquisition of German forward Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, securing him with a long-term contract. The announcement was made by the club on Saturday.
The precise financial terms remain undisclosed; however, various international media outlets estimate the agreement to be in the vicinity of £69 million (approximately $93.21 million). This represents a considerable investment for the club.
At the age of 23, Woltemade’s transfer eclipses the prior benchmark established by Swedish striker Alexander Isak. Isak’s acquisition by Newcastle occurred three years prior for £63 million, making Woltemade’s transfer a new record.
Woltemade commenced his professional journey with Werder Bremen, achieving his debut in the Bundesliga at just 17 years of age, which was a club record. Subsequently, he transitioned to Stuttgart, where he tallied 17 goals across 33 appearances in the prior season, underscoring his burgeoning talent in German soccer.
With speculation surrounding Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool, Woltemade is now tasked with rapidly acclimating to his fresh environment at St. James’ Park. Unfortunately, his registration was not completed in time for him to participate in Newcastle’s match against Leeds United on Saturday.
Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, conveyed his satisfaction regarding the signing, highlighting that Woltemade’s attributes seamlessly complement the club’s offensive requirements.
Howe stated, “We are very happy to finalize Nick’s signing so swiftly. He precisely matches the player profile we were seeking to enhance our attacking resources.”
The 1.98-meter forward, who has earned two caps for Germany, has received a call-up for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Slovakia and Northern Ireland scheduled for September.
Reflecting on his transition, Woltemade acknowledged the move as a pivotal juncture in his career. He stated, “Leaving Germany is a significant step in my life, yet everyone has been incredibly welcoming, and it already feels like a second home.”
