Sam Wells Steps Down as New Zealand Cricket Selector
Former first-class cricketer Sam Wells has declared his departure from his position as selector for the New Zealand men’s cricket team.
Wells, who has been in the crucial selection role for approximately two years, supervised a substantial transition period for the squad, which included the exit of long-standing coach Gary Stead and the retirement of former captain Tim Southee from Test cricket.
During his service, New Zealand accomplished a memorable 3-0 Test series victory over India on their home ground and progressed to the final of the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Despite this achievement, the 41-year-old has opted to resign to concentrate on his personal and professional endeavors.
“Serving as selection manager for the Black Caps over the past two years has been a great honor,” Wells stated.
“I’m very appreciative to NZC for the chance to contribute to the national team.
“It’s been a privilege to collaborate with the dedicated coaches, talented athletes, and committed support staff throughout New Zealand.
“While I’ve genuinely appreciated my time in the position, I’ve made the tough decision to step down to prioritize my personal and professional responsibilities outside of cricket.
“I remain a passionate supporter of the Black Caps and will continue to support the team as they progress toward future success.”
New Zealand Cricket will commence the search for Wells’s replacement to fulfill the important role of selector for the men’s team.
