Strickland’s Fight Announcement on Hold Pending Resolution
LAS VEGAS: Sean Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, is currently suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following an altercation at a recent MMA event in June.
Strickland’s case was initially listed on the commission’s agenda for Wednesday’s monthly meeting. However, a decision was made to postpone his hearing to a later date.
The incident occurred at the Tuff-N-Uff event. Strickland reportedly entered the cage after a fight where Miles Hunsinger was defeated by Luis Hernandez.
Reports indicate that a verbal exchange between the corners escalated, leading Strickland to throw a couple of punches at Hernandez, an action that was captured on video.
The UFC has stated that they will refrain from announcing Strickland’s next fight until this issue is formally addressed and resolved.
Nevada Deputy Attorney General Matthew Feeley stated that the problem began in June when the respondent engaged in a physical confrontation immediately following a bout in which he was not a participant.
Feeley clarified, “Regarding the June 29, 2025, event held in Las Vegas, NV, where the respondent was not competing, he was involved in a physical altercation with a contestant right after the contestant’s match.”
Hernandez has since expressed that he does not wish for Strickland to be penalized and has declined to press charges.
Hernandez noted, “I have no issues with them and hope the commission takes no action… They even asked if I was going to press charges, and I said no. I wouldn’t want anything negative to happen to those guys because I like them… I have no problem with Sean, Chris, or Xtreme Couture.”
