Nepal Edges Scotland in Thrilling T20 Tri-Nation Clash

GLASGOW: In a captivating low-scoring affair at Clydesdale, Glasgow, Nepal secured a narrow two-wicket victory against Scotland in the T20 Tri-Nation series on Tuesday.

After Scotland set a target of 98 runs, Nepal exhibited resilience, reaching 98/8 in 19.5 overs, with just one ball remaining. Kushal Bhurtel’s steady 30 runs were crucial in stabilizing Nepal’s innings.

Dipendra Singh Airee (14), Basir Ahamad (13), and Kiran Thagunna (10) made valuable contributions. However, the middle and lower order faced difficulties against Scotland’s tight bowling attack.

Scotland, batting first in breezy and overcast conditions, were dismissed for a meager 97 runs. Only three of their batsmen managed to score in double digits.

Michael Leask provided some resistance with a top score of 46, while captain Matthew Cross added 15, and Brandon McMullen contributed 10.

Nepal’s bowling attack was dominant. Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane delivered an impressive performance, taking 4/18 in his four overs, including a maiden over.

Karan and Dipendra Singh Airee supported well with two wickets each, while Lalit Rajbansi claimed one.

Lamichhane’s impactful bowling dismantled Scotland’s lower order after Karan and Airee had earlier destabilized the top and middle order.

Karan marked a milestone in the match, achieving 100 wickets in T20 International cricket, becoming the second Nepalese bowler to reach this landmark after Lamichhane.

Despite the modest target, Nepal’s chase became tense towards the end as Scotland mounted a comeback.

Safyaan Sharif dismissed Kiran Thagunna in the final over, leaving Nepal with eight wickets down and needing just one run from the last two balls.

Lamichhane was recognized as Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance.

Scotland, following their 39-run victory against the Netherlands in their opening match, will aim to recover when they face the Dutch again on Wednesday.
