Nationals Secure Series Win Over Mets with Offensive Surge

WASHINGTON: At Nationals Park on Thursday, James Wood’s impressive performance, including a 26th homer, and Brady House’s three hits propelled the Washington Nationals to a 9-3 victory over the New York Mets, winning the series.

Riley Adams added two hits and two RBIs, complementing a strong bullpen effort from the Nationals, which contributed four and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief.

Jackson Rutledge secured the win, recording the final two outs in the fifth, while Jose A. Ferrer completed the game, earning his fourth save. This triumph concluded a successful 4-3 homestand for Washington.

Francisco Lindor stood out for the Mets with three hits, featuring a leadoff homer, and Starling Marte also contributed with a home run.

New York initially took a 3-0 lead by the fourth inning, driven by Lindor’s homer, Marte’s solo shot, and a sacrifice fly from Hayden Senger.

Washington responded in the bottom of the fourth, with CJ Abrams scoring on a groundout by Dylan Crews.

The Nationals then took control in the fifth. After House singled and Abrams was hit by a pitch, loading the bases, Paul DeJong’s sacrifice fly narrowed the score to 3-2. Adams then delivered a two-run single against reliever Tyler Rogers, putting Washington ahead 4-3.

Daylen Lile scored in the sixth to further extend the lead, before Washington solidified their position with a four-run eighth inning, highlighted by Wood’s homer.

Sean Manaea (1-2) suffered the defeat for New York, allowing four runs on three hits over four and two-thirds innings.

The Mets are now traveling to Atlanta for a weekend series, where Nolan McLean, a rookie, is scheduled for his second career start against Joey Wentz of the Braves. Meanwhile, Washington is heading to Philadelphia, where Cade Cavalli will start Friday’s opener against Taijuan Walker.
