Mushtaq Ahmed Lauds Peshawar Zalmi, Draws Manchester United Comparison
LAHORE: Former Pakistan spinner and current spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has made a comparison, referring to Peshawar Zalmi as the “Manchester United of cricket.”
Ahmed, in a statement to Zalmi’s social media team on Wednesday, voiced optimism about the team’s performance in their future contests.
He also emphasized the team’s solidarity as a notable attribute, stating that the players stand together regardless of the situation, and the fans consistently offer their support.
“Peshawar Zalmi is like the Manchester United of cricket. Even when experiencing defeat, the team remains unified. This unity is remarkable, and the fans consistently demonstrate affection and backing,” Ahmed commented.
The 54-year-old coach encouraged the supporters to continue their allegiance to the team.
“My message to the Peshawar Zalmi faithful is to keep cheering for the team. We are committed to improving our play, and we aim to make you proud,” he said.
Mushtaq Ahmed also acknowledged the commitment and effort of Babar Azam and Saim Ayub.
“Babar Azam is showing great perseverance, and Saim Ayub delivered a strong performance in his return match following his injury. With more time, he will undoubtedly make a significant impact,” he added.
Furthermore, Ahmed commended Peshawar Zalmi’s spin bowlers, describing them as potential “match-winners.”
He lauded Sufiyan Muqeem, Mehran Mumtaz, Arif Yaqoob, and Maaz Sadaqat, urging them to maintain their hard work to contribute to the team’s victories.
“All four spinners possess great talent. With continued dedication, they will be crucial in securing wins for us,” he concluded.
So far, Babar Azam’s Zalmi has faced challenges in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, struggling to achieve a dominant showing.
The team has participated in six games, securing two wins and suffering four losses, resulting in four points. They presently hold the fifth position in the points standings.
