Naqvi Urges Players to Foster Unity Ahead of Major Tournaments

LAUDERHILL: PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, currently in the United States, observed the second T20 International match between Pakistan and West Indies at Lauderhill Stadium on Sunday.

While at the match, Naqvi engaged in discussions with prominent players from the ODI team, notably ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan, former captain Babar Azam, and fast bowler Naseem Shah.

The discussions centered on various cricket-related topics, including preparations for their forthcoming international commitments.

During the meeting, the PCB chairman emphasized the importance of unity and mutual support among the players, highlighting teamwork as a key factor for consistent success.

Naqvi stated to the players, “Success is achieved through collective effort as a unified team. I am pleased to witness the players’ solidarity. With significant events like the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup on the horizon, it is crucial to maintain this support for each other.”

In the meantime, West Indies secured a thrilling two-wicket victory against Pakistan in the second T20 of the series at Lauderhill Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan, batting first, struggled to establish a substantial score and concluded their innings at 133/9 in the allocated 20 overs.

Hasan Nawaz was the top scorer with 40 runs, while captain Salman Ali Agha added 38 runs.

Apart from them, other batsmen failed to leave a considerable mark, with eight players not reaching double digits.

For West Indies, Jason Holder was the standout performer, claiming four wickets, while Gudakesh Motie secured two. Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, and Roston Chase each took one wicket.

In pursuit of a 134-run target, West Indies ultimately reached the required score on the final ball of the innings, having lost eight wickets in a tense finish.

Jason Holder was awarded Player of the Match for his pivotal all-round performance.
