Bakole Calls Out Joshua, Eyes African Showdown

Congolese heavyweight boxer Martin Bakole has challenged British boxing sensation Anthony Joshua to a fight, suggesting a major event held on the African continent.

Bakole stated on Wednesday that he is assured of securing a knockout victory against the former unified heavyweight titleholder. He mentioned that both he and Joshua are interested in having the match staged in Africa.

“This is for Africa. The idea to have the fight in Africa was requested by His Excellency. Joshua hails from Nigeria, and I am from Congo. It is our mutual desire to have this fight in Africa. Joshua remains a target,” Bakole remarked.

“Personally, I believe Joshua is past his prime. I anticipate knocking him out,” he added.

Joshua’s professional career commenced in 2013, following a successful amateur period that began in 2007. He achieved prominence with a remarkable series of 20 successive knockout wins. In 2016, he clinched his first global title by defeating Charles Martin with a second-round knockout.

His first professional defeat occurred in 2019, with a shocking loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden. However, Joshua demonstrated resilience by reclaiming his titles in a conclusive rematch later that year.

As he reaches the later years of his career, Joshua may have a limited number of significant fights remaining, and Bakole is keen to be considered as a potential opponent.

Despite his aspirations, Bakole’s recent performances have sparked concern. He was knocked out by Joseph Parker in February, stepping in as a late replacement, and then fought Efe Ajagba to a draw, a match that many observers believe he was fortunate to not lose.

Furthermore, emerging heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma is reportedly being considered as a possible opponent for Bakole, following his impressive knockout victory last weekend.
