Manchester United Pays Tribute to Diogo Jota and Brother
Manchester United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, along with captain Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, visited Anfield on Monday to honor Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
The United contingent, sharing a connection with the deceased, presented a floral tribute among others placed outside Anfield. Fernandes and Dalot had previously celebrated victory with Jota in the Nations League back in June.
Jota and Silva tragically died in a car accident near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, on July 3, 2025. It is believed they were en route to the UK for Liverpool’s preseason preparations when the accident occurred.
Reports indicate that the incident took place early in the morning when their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire.
The Portuguese members of the Manchester United team also included a heartfelt message with the flowers:
“Rest in peace Diogo and André,” the message conveyed.
“With deepest condolences from everyone at Manchester United.”
Liverpool has retired Jota’s No. 20 jersey across all levels of its men’s and women’s teams to commemorate the player.
Liverpool made their first appearance since Jota’s passing against Preston North End on Saturday, a match filled with tributes.
Before the match began, players from both teams gathered at the center of the field for a moment of silence to remember Jota and Silva.
Mohamed Salah led the team during the event. Virgil van Dijk, the club captain, and Andrew Robertson, a close friend of Jota, were also present in the stands, with Van Dijk not included in the game’s squad.
A series of tributes were held before the game, including a minute of silence.
