Manchester United to Sign Goalkeeper Senne Lammens
Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement with Royal Antwerp of the Belgian Pro League for the acquisition of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, according to British media outlets.
Reports indicate that Lammens is expected to sign a five-year contract with United for a fee of £18.2 million, in addition to potential performance-based add-ons.
The young Belgian international is slated to undergo a medical examination before officially signing the contract.
The 23-year-old possesses the potential to challenge both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir for the position of first-choice goalkeeper, especially considering their struggles this season.
Onana faced criticism following their Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, while Bayindir, who has featured in all three Premier League matches, committed errors against Arsenal and Burnley.
When questioned about these mistakes after the 3-2 victory against Burnley on Saturday, United’s manager Amorim stated that goalkeepers should not bear all the blame and that everyone needs to improve.
The Portuguese coach remarked, “Everyone is focusing on the goalkeeper.”
He added, “I believe it is a challenging period to be a Manchester United goalkeeper.”
“The players are experiencing difficulties due to the situation surrounding the club, which is understandable. It’s not solely the goalkeepers; everyone needs to elevate their performance.”
Earlier reports also linked The Red Devils with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Emi Martinez.
Martinez was notably absent from Villa’s 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday, coinciding with speculation linking him to United.
Lammens has recorded 12 clean sheets in 60 appearances for Antwerp since his debut in November 2023.
