Scholes Suggests Amorim Given ‘Too Much Time’ at Manchester United
Paul Scholes, the former Manchester United midfielder, voiced his opinion that Ruben Amorim might be receiving ‘too much time’ at the helm, despite the team’s underwhelming performance.
Since Amorim took over ten months ago, Manchester United has secured victory in only 10 out of 34 Premier League matches.
Prior to Amorim’s appointment, the club weighed several other candidates. Southgate was among those considered as a potential successor to Erik Ten Hag, but Manchester United ultimately opted for Amorim.
This decision has not yielded the desired outcomes, with the club concluding last season in 15th place, marking their lowest position in the Premier League era.
Additionally, Amorim’s squad suffered a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, resulting in their absence from European competitions this season.
Further exacerbating the situation was their elimination from the League Cup by Grimsby Town, a League Two team, in August 2025.
Scholes, a Manchester United icon, stated that while the Red Devils typically afford managers sufficient time, Amorim’s tenure might be exceeding that threshold.
“I believe that with Ruben Amorim, we’ve reached a point where constant discussions about dismissing managers are undesirable, and Manchester United generally allows managers ample time,” he remarked.
“He’ll likely never face booing from the supporters, but it wasn’t until the Brentford game that I began to feel, ‘He’s being given a bit too much leeway,’ and it seems like the end might be approaching.”
Manchester United currently occupies the 10th spot in the Premier League standings after seven games, with three losses, an equal number of wins, and one draw.
