Maguire Lauds Fernandes as His Most Complete Teammate

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has described his teammate Bruno Fernandes, the club captain, as the ‘most complete’ player he has ever played alongside, even placing him above Cristiano Ronaldo, according to various media outlets on Monday.

In a recent interview, Maguire spoke highly of Fernandes’s leadership qualities, acknowledging his significant impact on the team and applauding his unwavering dedication.

While recognizing Ronaldo’s contributions, Maguire noted that the Al-Nassr forward’s time with him at the club was relatively brief.

Maguire stated, “I deeply admire Bruno for his daily contributions to the team. He is an exceptional footballer, arguably the most complete I’ve had the pleasure of playing with. I can’t express my admiration for him enough.”
He further added, “Cristiano [Ronaldo] joined later in my career, so I didn’t witness him at his absolute peak. However, Cristiano’s presence was incredible, but in terms of Bruno’s overall influence on the club over recent years, he stands out as a truly fantastic footballer.”

Despite being replaced as captain by Fernandes in 2023 by Erik ten Hag, Maguire maintains a strong bond with his teammate.

Fernandes revealed that Maguire congratulated him upon his appointment as captain, acknowledging the challenging situation.

Bruno mentioned, “He offered his congratulations and expressed his happiness for me. I understand his current situation is not ideal, and it must be difficult for him. But he still came to congratulate me, which I appreciate because we’ve always shared a positive relationship.”

Notably, Harry Maguire has participated in 203 matches with Bruno Fernandes, compared to only 36 alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
