Luka Doncic Details Month-Long Basketball Hiatus and Body Transformation
Los Angeles Lakers standout Luka Doncic recently discussed his impressive physical transformation, stating that this is only the beginning. The 26-year-old Slovenian athlete appears to be in the best shape of his career after dedicating himself this summer.
While Doncic has long been a prominent figure in the NBA, he has faced criticism regarding his fitness. However, his recent efforts have resulted in a remarkable change, surprising many with his new physique.
Doncic mentioned that he focuses on different aspects of his game and conditioning each summer, with this past summer being particularly significant. “Visually, I’d say my entire physique has improved,” Doncic commented.
He elaborated, “Every summer, I dedicate myself to enhancing various facets of my game. My competitive spirit drives me. This summer was unique, motivating me to strive for even greater heights. Stopping now would negate all the progress I’ve made.”
Following the Lakers’ early playoff exit in 2025, Doncic took a complete month off from basketball. He is now prioritizing self-care to achieve dominance in the league.
“My sleep, my physical condition, everything… I feel more rejuvenated. My goal is to be the best version of myself and prioritize my well-being,” Luka explained. “This year, our team took a significant leap forward. But this is merely the inception. I must maintain this momentum and not falter.”
Speculation arose that the Dallas Mavericks traded him to the Lakers due to concerns about his dietary habits. Doncic’s dedication in the kitchen played a pivotal role in his metamorphosis. The Lakers’ young star noted the challenges of maintaining a strict regimen during the NBA season but resolved to make a change.
“The constant travel in the NBA makes it difficult,” he acknowledged. “You’re rarely at home. Returning home after the season is significant; seeing friends and family. It’s certainly not easy.”
“When I joined the NBA at 18, I was unsure of what to anticipate during those initial years. Eventually, I realized the necessity of making this commitment.”
In the gym, Doncic and his team emphasized footwork and controlled deceleration.
“It’s not solely about vertical jump,” he clarified. “I believe I possess athleticism in other areas, such as balance, body control, and controlled stops and slowdowns,” he concluded.
His trainers advised him to refrain from playing basketball, encouraging him instead to engage in other sports and dedicate himself to gym workouts.
