Heung-Min Inks Three-Year Deal with LAFC

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain, Son Heung-min, has officially joined Los Angeles FC after finalizing an agreement, the club revealed Wednesday.

Global media outlets have stated the contract is valued at approximately $26 million. This surpasses the previous MLS record of $22 million spent by Atlanta United FC last winter for forward Emmanuel Latte Lath.

The terms of Son’s arrangement span three years, and it contains options for the year 2028 and the initial six months of 2029.

Son expressed his enthusiasm about becoming a member of LAFC. He stated his belief that the club aims to develop the most recognizable sports hub. He also mentioned Los Angeles’ history of winning championships and his intentions to contribute to that.

“I’m incredibly proud to be joining LAFC, a club with big ambitions in one of the most iconic sports cities in the world,” Son stated.

“Los Angeles has such a rich history of champions, and I am here to help write the next chapter. I’m excited for this new challenge in MLS. I have come to L.A. to lift trophies and give everything for this club, this city, and its fans. I cannot wait to get started.”

Son revealed that his decision to sign with the MLS team involved several considerations, but LAFC general manager John Thorrington played a vital role in convincing him.

“He changed my heart, he changed my brain,” Son remarked.

“He showed me the destination where I should be.”

He also acknowledged the influence of former Tottenham colleague and current LAFC goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, who actively recruited him.

“Hugo was helping and advising about how great Los Angeles is,” Son added.
