Liverpool Secures Striker Will Wright with Initial £200,000 Payment
Liverpool has reached an agreement to acquire forward Will Wright from Salford City, according to reports. Wright was previously a target for Arsenal.
Reports indicate that Liverpool will make an initial payment of £200,000 ($267,000) for the striker, with additional performance-based incentives included in the deal.
Upon joining Liverpool, Wright will be integrated into the U21 squad, which is now under the guidance of former Wales head coach Rob Page.
Academy director Alex Inglethorpe shared his positive assessment of Page, highlighting his extensive experience in developing young talent. He specifically noted Page’s accomplishments at Euro 2020.
Inglethorpe stated, “Rob’s extensive playing and coaching background will be invaluable as young players aim to transition from the academy to the first team.”
“His success in leading Wales to the knockout stage of Euro 2020 and subsequently qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speaks volumes.”
Inglethorpe further noted that during Page’s tenure with the national team, numerous academy players progressed to the senior squad, adding that under Page’s guidance, players have shown substantial improvement.
“The work he undertook with the national team, which facilitated the advancement of numerous pathway players into the senior setup, is often overlooked,” he commented.
“We’ve witnessed firsthand at Liverpool how several of our academy players have made considerable strides on the international scene under Rob’s leadership.”
Page’s appointment follows the departure of Barry Lewtas, the academy coach, who served the club for 12 years and oversaw various age groups.
