Wirtz Transfers to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for £100 Million
Liverpool has formally revealed its squad numbers for the 2025-26 season this Thursday. Florian Wirtz is set to don the number 7 jersey, taking over from Luis Diaz, who has moved to Bayern Munich.
The German national is joining the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in a transfer valued at £100 million and will inherit the number seven shirt previously worn by Luis Diaz.
Diaz finalized his transfer to Bayern Munich earlier in the week for a sum of £65.5 million ($86m).
It’s worth noting that earlier in the summer, left-back Milos Kerkez also signed with Liverpool from Bournemouth and is slated to wear the number 6 shirt.
Striker Hugo Ekitike became a team member last week following his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt and will be seen wearing the number 22 jersey.
In terms of goalkeepers, the new addition Giorgi Mamardashvili will be assigned number 25, while Freddie Woodman will sport number 28, and academy product Armin Pecsi will receive number 41.
Changes have also occurred within the current squad. Young right-back Conor Bradley has switched from number 84 to number 12, indicating his increasing significance within the first-team structure.
Midfield hopeful Trey Nyoni, who previously wore number 98, will now be seen with number 42.
These new shirt numbers highlight a summer characterized by considerable investment and transformation for Liverpool as they aim to restructure their squad under fresh leadership and compete effectively across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.
