Norris Admits Error After Teammate Collision

MONTREAL: Following a collision with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, driver Lando Norris confessed that he ‘made a fool of himself’.

George Russell of Great Britain secured victory in the Canadian GP from pole position, while Max Verstappen of Red Bull claimed second place.

With just three laps remaining, Norris made contact with Piastri, resulting in Norris’s retirement. Piastri, however, finished fourth, increasing his lead in the championship by 22 points.

After withdrawing from the race, Norris conveyed his apologies over the radio.

“It was entirely my fault. A foolish move on my part,” he admitted.

Reflecting on the incident post-race, Norris acknowledged that he took an unnecessary risk.

“I shouldn’t have attempted the move; it’s clear in hindsight. I believed he was slightly drifting to the right, presenting an opportunity on the left. It was far too risky, particularly with my teammate. I’m relieved he wasn’t harmed, and I’ve paid the price for my error,” Norris stated.

The British racer expressed his regret, saying he felt he had embarrassed himself and felt remorseful for the crash.

“Indeed, I do feel bad because our primary rule is to avoid contact with my teammate, which I violated. McLaren is like family to me, and I dedicate every weekend to performing well for them, even more so than for myself,” Norris explained.

“Therefore, when I let them down in this manner and act foolishly, as I did today, I deeply regret it.

“I’m not proud of my actions and feel I’ve disappointed the team, which is the worst feeling. Ultimately, I need to apologize to everyone involved, including Oscar.”

The incident led to the race concluding under a safety car, with Piastri’s vehicle seemingly undamaged.

Norris also mentioned that he sought out Piastri after the race to offer a personal apology.
