Ruud Set to Compete at Gstaad Open Following Wimbledon Absence

Two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud will not participate in Wimbledon because of a persistent knee injury, according to international reports.

Ruud, currently ranked as world number 16, experienced a surprising second-round defeat at the French Open last month, losing to Nuno Borges of Portugal.

After his exit from Roland Garros, Ruud mentioned he had been managing a knee problem for some time. Consequently, he has been absent from the men’s tour, withdrawing from the grasscourt event in Mallorca.

His manager, Tina Falster, has confirmed Ruud’s return to the court. However, competing in best-of-five sets matches is still premature given his present condition. His next tournament is scheduled to be the Gstaad Open, taking place from July 12–20, 2025.

“He is back training, and things are progressing positively. Unfortunately, playing best-of-five sets at this stage is too ambitious. Casper’s next competition will be in Gstaad,” Falster stated.

Ruud, 26, also expressed that players face significant pressure to participate in mandatory tournaments due to the ATP Rankings system.

“The ATP’s mandatory event rules create a sense of obligation to play. There’s a significant perceived loss in terms of finances, ranking points, and opportunities if you don’t participate,” Ruud commented.

The 26-year-old has been dealing with the injury for several months, causing him to miss his title defense at the Geneva Open. He returned to compete at the French Open before his second-round elimination.
