Khalid Mahmood of Pakistan Elected to Asian Boxing Board, Defeating India’s Ajay Singh
BANGKOK: Muhammad Khalid Mahmood from Pakistan has been chosen as a member of the Asian Boxing Board of Directors, triumphing over Ajay Singh of India during Saturday’s elections in Bangkok.
The elections, which were held under the supervision of the Asian Boxing Confederation, witnessed Khalid Mahmood’s significant win, which was supported by various Asian nations.
Mahmood, who represents the South Asia region, secured 18 votes, while his Indian rival obtained only nine. This showed strong support for the Pakistani candidate.
The outcome represents a major accomplishment for Pakistan in international sports. Members supported Khalid Mahmood because of his leadership qualities and his vision for promoting boxing in the region.
Currently, Mahmood holds the position of secretary general at the Pakistan Olympic Association, which further enhances his standing as a prominent individual in sports administration.
President Lt. Col. (retd) Nasir of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) conveyed his congratulations to Mahmood.
He stated that Pakistan’s presence on the Asian Boxing Board will foster collaboration within the region and that confidence in Pakistan’s sports leadership has grown at the Asian level.
Earlier this year in January, Khalid Mahmood resigned from his position as PBF President, and Nasir Ijaz Tung assumed the role.
Begum Ishrat Ashraf served as chairperson, responsible for governmental and international matters, while Muhammad Asghar holds the position of Executive Vice President.
Additional vice-presidents include Major Azhar Ali Khan, Captain Muhammad Kamran, Dr. Sumeera Sattar, and Ms. Iqra Khan.
Irfan Younis currently serves as PBF Secretary General, Muhammad Zaeem Nisar Chaudhri has been appointed Treasurer, and Squadron Leader Muhsin Ali Chaudhry is the Associate Secretary General.
