Akmal Urges Siddique to Preserve Dignity
Former Pakistani wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal has responded to Azam Siddique, Babar Azam’s father, following Siddique’s reaction to Akmal’s suggestion that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan should focus primarily on Test cricket in the future.
In a recent podcast appearance, Akmal stated that removing the star duo from Pakistan’s T20I squad was “absolutely the right decision.”
He suggested that both players are more suited to the longer format, saying, “In my view, they should now be reserved solely for Test matches. Perhaps after another six months, they should only be considered for Test cricket.”
Akmal also questioned their future in the ODI format, adding, “After another six months, they should be excluded from ODIs as well, because Pakistan rarely plays Test matches these days. Nobody even discusses Test cricket. However, genuine players are developed through Test cricket.”
In response, Babar’s father posted an old photo featuring himself, Babar, and Akmal, accompanied by a caption that indirectly addressed Akmal’s comments.
“This child (Babar) never played under your captaincy, but you played under his captaincy and were dismissed for zero while he scored a century that day. Speaking ill of successful individuals is a habit of those who have not succeeded.”
Siddique also quoted a Turkish proverb: “If someone claims to be your brother, they should also specify whether they are like Habil or Qabil (referencing the story of Abel and Cain).”
Akmal didn’t appreciate Siddique’s remarks and shared a screenshot of the post on his Instagram story, asking him to stay within reasonable bounds.
“May Allah grant you greater respect and success. Remaining silent isn’t always an option, especially when misinformation is being spread,” Akmal wrote.
“I respectfully request that you consider the facts before speaking or posting about me. Our parents taught us not to envy anyone, and Alhamdulillah, I’ve proudly represented my country and performed with honor.
“Please choose your words with greater care next time. You have repeatedly crossed established boundaries. Stay within your limits.”
Kamran Akmal further advised Siddique against damaging his reputation by continuing down this path, emphasizing that cricket is about performance, not personal conflicts.
“Do not compromise your respect by continuing this way. Cricket is about performance, not personal agendas. If you intend to criticize someone, be direct. The truth remains visible. Pakistan Zindabad always.”
