Punk Issues a Cryptic Message After Cena’s Title Defense
Former WWE Champion CM Punk has hinted at a potential challenge to John Cena for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) title with a brief, two-word message.
Cena, currently on his farewell tour, successfully defended his championship against longtime adversary Randy Orton in the main event of Saturday’s Premium Live Event (PLE), Backlash.
The match commenced with a show of respect as Cena offered a handshake, which rapidly devolved into a fierce physical altercation.
Crowd favorites such as Cena’s Five Knuckle Shuffle and Orton’s signature stomps electrified the audience. Key moments included Orton countering an Attitude Adjustment into an RKO and driving Cena through a table with another impactful maneuver.
The intensity escalated when Cena attempted to utilize the championship belt as a weapon. Orton evaded the attack, inadvertently causing Cena to incapacitate the referee. Orton seized the opportunity with another RKO and attempted a punt kick but was interrupted by R-Truth, who intervened to protect Cena, his self-proclaimed hero.
Orton then executed an RKO on R-Truth. However, the distraction allowed Cena to deliver a low blow followed by a strike to Orton with the championship belt.
As the referee regained consciousness, Cena capitalized, securing the pinfall victory and retaining the WWE Universal Championship, potentially concluding one of WWE’s most celebrated rivalries.
Shortly after the PLE concluded, CM Punk posted an Instagram story featuring John Cena on his television screen, with the caption ‘Cena is still the champ’.
Punk’s caption accompanying the image was ‘for now’, alluding to the subtitles.
The former champion’s social media activity strongly suggests his ambition for the title, with speculation indicating he might issue a challenge during his appearance on Monday Night Raw.
However, his ongoing conflict with Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker’s newly established alliance, managed by Paul Heyman, could present an obstacle in his pursuit of a third WWE title.
