Lakers Coach JJ Redick Highlights Team Improvements and Provides Update on Luka Doncic
Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has identified specific areas where the team has shown progress during the offseason.
Despite the Lakers’ winless record in the preseason so far, with losses to the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, Redick has expressed satisfaction with the team’s development during training camp, particularly in the area of communication.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday after a training session, Redick emphasized the importance of small interactions he has observed, which he felt were lacking last season.
“The recurring observation today was the prevalence of small interactions,” Redick stated.
“In my view, the most successful teams and organizations across all fields place great value on these small interactions. … We didn’t excel in this area last year, which is a key component of championship-level communication.”
Redick also gave an update regarding Luka Doncic’s condition.
He confirmed that Doncic participated fully in Saturday’s practice and is expected to play in two of the team’s remaining three preseason games.
“Luka took part completely in today’s training,” Redick confirmed.
“He is scheduled to participate in two games.”
Doncic has played more basketball than any of his teammates this summer, having represented Slovenia in EuroBasket 2025. To manage his fitness, Redick chose to rest him for the initial two preseason games against the Warriors and the Suns.
The Lakers will conclude their preseason schedule with games against the Warriors on Sunday, the Suns on Tuesday, and the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
