India vs. England Test Series: Bumrah Eyes Wasim Akram’s Record
The five-Test series between India and England is scheduled to commence on June 20.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is on the cusp of matching a record held by Pakistani legend Wasim Akram. He needs just one more scalp to equal Akram’s mark for the most Test wickets taken by an Asian bowler in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).
Akram, a celebrated Pakistani fast bowler, accumulated 146 wickets in 32 Test matches played in these challenging overseas locales. Bumrah has secured 145 wickets in just 31 games across SENA nations.
Beyond potentially equalling Akram’s record, Bumrah is also aiming to become the first Asian bowler ever to reach 150 Test wickets in SENA countries, a milestone that remains unclaimed.
To date, Bumrah has taken 205 wickets in 45 Test matches, demonstrating his importance in India’s Test squad.
He is approaching a significant achievement as India prepares to face England in the upcoming Test series.
The Indian team’s management has stated that Bumrah will participate in only three matches during the series to manage his workload and reduce the potential for injury.
Following the recent retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, the newly appointed Test captain, is at the helm.
India’s last Test series victory in England occurred in 2007, and the team now seeks to break that prolonged dry spell.
The five Test matches will be contested at well-known grounds, including Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord’s and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
